The following BGP communities are currently accepted which allow you to control egress traffic on your BGP session. All communities are large communities. Tier.Net also supports community passthrough to our upstream providers and internet exchanges. Please note our upstreams vary by POP location.
General communities (upstream providers vary by POP):
397423:666:666 = blackhole
The following general format applies:
397423:101:ASN = prepend once to upstream/peers ASN
397423:102:ASN = prepend twice to upstream/peers ASN
397423:103:ASN = prepend three times to upstream/peers ASN
397423:0:ASN = do not announce to upstream/peers ASN
As an example:
397423:101:3356 = prepend once to Lumen
397423:102:3356 = prepend twice to Lumen
397423:103:3356 = prepend three times to Lumen
397423:0:3356 = do not announce to Lumen
The same format applies to IX communities as well that have a direct session, for instance the following would apply for direct peering sessions. You can apply passthrough communities to traffic shape from the IX if there is no direct session.
397423:0:300 = do not announce to IX (IX varies by POP)
397423:0:6939 = do not export to hurricane electric
Additionally, we tag the following internal communities:
397423:10:100 = learned from transit
397423:10:120 = learned from IX/Peer
397423:10:140 = learned from customer
